April 10-16- Wildlife Week.
Sat, April 16:Learn To Fish! From 9:00 AM to 12:30. Park admission is: $2.50 for adults, $1.50 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! Come celebrate wildlife week with this special offer to learn how to fish at the Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park. Join Tara Marshall, sport fish development officer, to learn the safe and proper way to fish in NS. We recommend this event for ages 7 to 100. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Fishing gear will be supplied if needed. Be prepared for a 1 1/2 hour classroom session, then take to the pond and try your hand at catching some delicious fish. Bring outdoor clothes, rubber boots, hat, insect repellent and sunblock. The session will end with a fish cleaning demonstration and we will cook some fish so everyone can have a taste test and pass the course. You must pre-register and receive a confirmation to participate in this event by phoning 902-758-5316 or emailing legacycentre@gov.ns.ca. Event is limited to 30 people.
Sat, April 23:Easter Egg Hunt from 9:00am – 2:00 pmPark admission is: $2.50 for adults, $1.50 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! Join us for our second annual Easter egg hunt at the Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park. Bring the family out to hunt for large wooden eggs throughout the Park, find a message hidden in these large eggs and you may even win a prize. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate after your hike through the Park. Dress for the weather.
Sat, May 21: Butterfly Garden Party from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Park admission is: $4.25 for adults, $2.00 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! Join us at the park to help expand our butterfly garden. We will be planting some wild native plant species and some cultivated species to entice an array of butterflies to sip nectar all season long. We hope this will seed the minds of others to plant their own butterfly gardens. Wear work clothes, sturdy footwear, bring sun block and insect repellent.
Sat, June 4: Fear Factor from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Park admission is: $4.25 for adults, $2.00 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! Face your fears as you learn about wetland creatures that have scary features. Discover facts about the giant water bug, the predacious water beetle, and the star nosed mole. Explore the wildlife park animals and make a list of what you would fear from each animal. Bring your list to our interpreters and they will explain if your fears are justified.
Sat, June 25:Christmas in June! from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Park admission is: $4.25 for adults, $2.00 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! Come and celebrate the wonders of Christmas Trees in Nova Scotia by learning about the different kinds of tree species used and the journey that they experience. Be sure and say “Hello” to our reindeer and see if they are getting in shape for the big night in 6 months time.
Fri, July 1 (Canada Day):Toad & Frog Day from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Park admission is: $4.25 for adults, $2.00 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! How can you tell the difference between toads and frogs? You can ask us and hunt for some in their habitat. Learn about their life cycles up close. View the toads and frogs on display at the wetland centre. Come explore our pseudo pond and make a craft.

Get a nocturnal view of the park and its inhabitants. The fee for adults is $7.00, children $3.00. Cash only. All ages welcome. Please bring flashlights, insect repellant, dress for the weather, wear good walking/hiking shoes and bring water. Pre- registering required. Sat, July 9:Rainbow Day from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Park admission is: $4.25 for adults, $2.00 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! Make giant rainbows with sidewalk chalk on our walkway and experiment in making your own rainbow with water. Enjoy our puppet show starring the Intolerant dinosaur who becomes open-minded with help from forest friends.
July 11-15: Summer Camp- Join Shubenacadie Young Naturalists Club ( SYNC) daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
The beautiful Provincial Wildlife Park offers the perfect outdoor location to learn about nature and wildlife for children age 7-12. Children can be registered for the day or the whole week. The cost is $30 per day for 1 child or $140 for the week. We offer physical, mental and social stimulation in an educational and recreational program to encourage a lifelong enjoyment of nature. All participants will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the day. Camps will be run by experienced outdoor educators trained in first aid and CPR. Fri, July 22: Evening Bonanza Bat Walkstarting at 9:00 PM–Rain date July 23-We will be hosting a bat walk with zoologist and bat expert, Andrew Hebda, from the Museum of Natural History. There will be a short slide presentation about these resonating creatures. Then using a specialized instrument, that picks up the bat's sonar, we will track their activities in the park. Please wear good walking/hiking shoes, bring a flashlight, insect repellent and water. The fee for adults is $7.00, children $3.00. Cash only. Pre‑registration is required. You must receive a confirmation to be eligible for this event.
Sat, July 30: Collecting, Naming, and Preserving Plants!- from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Park admission is: $4.25 for adults, $2.00 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! Here is a chance to learn a safe, conscientious method to make a pressed plant collection. Explore our wetland hiking trail with an interpreter and collect some common plant samples. Return to the centre where pressing techniques and materials will be examined and you will be on your way to developing a pressed plant collection or using pressed plants for crafts.
Sat, August 6: No Slandering of the Snakes!!from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Park admission is: $4.25 for adults, $2.00 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! We are seriously celebrating Snakes with displays, a colouring contest, a snake race and make your own snake with a recycled tie for $2. Learn about Nova Scotia’s five species of nonpoisonous snakes and meet some personally.

Sat, August 20:Monarch Butterfly Day from 1:00-4:00 PM- Park admission is: $4.25 for adults, $2.00 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! Learn about this amazing species at risk, its threats to survival, unbelievable migration path, lifecycle and habitat. Play the Monarch Butterfly card game to win a prize. Monarch Butterflies at different stages of their lifecycle will be on display. If any adult butterflies are ready for flight join us at 3:00 pm for a release party.

Come to our wetland pond and explore the mud with our staff. Wear old clothes and dress for the weather. Explore the different kinds of mud and seek the living world that survives in the mud. Learn about the mud’s summer residents and the winter residents. Make a mud animal track to take home.

Sat, September 24: Migrating Bird Watching from 8:00 AM- 11:00 AM. Join our expert for a great bird watching adventure along our wetland trails. The early bird catches the worm or the early person sees the birds since that is when they are the most active. The Atlantic Fly Way passes over Nova Scotia so we could see some uncommon species. Last year our highlight was spotting a Peregrine Falcon! Dress for the weather with good walking shoes and bring your binoculars if you have them. Pre- registering required. We will be drawing your attention to the many, animals, birds, reptiles, plants and marine species that are at risk in this province. Find out the threats to their survival and play our giant interactive dice game to see if you can help them. Discover the many ways these species have value.
Sat, October 8:Learn to Liken the Lichen from 1:00 PM -3:00 PM.Park admission is: $4.25 for adults, $2.00 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! The marvelous array of colour and shape of our local lichen species will be explored along a moderate hiking trail. This is a great opportunity to photograph and learn about the importance of lichen to the natural food chain, habitat and human medicine. Wear good walking shoes, a hat and raingear if necessary.
Sat, October 15: Search for Wildlife Cocoons and Pupa from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM.Park admission is: $4.25 for adults, $2.00 for youth (age 6-17), children 5 and under are free! Join us on our wetland trail where we search high and low in the shrubs and the forest litter for the homes of insects preparing for their winter sleep and metamorphosis. We hope to find some silk moth cocoons that are one of the largest and use magnifying glasses to find some of the smallest. Wear good walking shoes, a hat and raingear if necessary.
